YOU have always had a yen for the stunning peak-studded scenery, and get a kick out of endurance events. You are eager to put on crampons and use your ice axe to get to the most awe-inspiring places. Your dreams are made of the white fluffy stuff that your skis float in, and you want to earn your turns. You crave the adrenalin, thin air, and the giddy high of standing on a hard-earned summit. You are not new to this -- maybe you grew up running around the hills, or ski-bummed after college. You …

We also focus on getting to races and the competitive side of the sport as well. You should join if - you want to meet other riders and take short weekend or day road trips out of the city to ride and rac …
Mountaineer 1. An inhabitant of a mountainous area. 2. One who climbs mountains for sport. (The American Heritage Dictionary) Seeing as Richmond features an average elevation of 166.45’ and a towering maximum elevation of 312’, Richmond-based alpinists use the second of the two definitions provided above. Interested in climbing big mountains, both domestic and international? Looking to tick off more state highpoints? Psyched about ice climbing (both here in Virginia and elsewhere)? Seeking to im …

Thank you for your interest in joining DC Snowriders. We’re a group of skiers, snowboarders and outdoor enthusiasts in our 20's and 30's that love hitting the slopes (but don't let age deter you!). Let's face it, the reason you've stumbled across this page is because you love (or might be interested in) strapping 1 or 2 pieces of wood, fiberglass, and metal to your feet as you go screaming down the mountain - just to ride a rickety ol', freezing cold chair to the top to start over! We encourage …

During the ski season, I hope we can get some folks out for some weekday day trips to Snowshoe or other mountains and perhaps a couple of trips going north to VT. If we grow in size, I hope we can look to trips west to CO, NV, UT... But, skiing is only roughly a 4 mo …

Good food... good company... a glass of wine... and an afternoon of skiing. It doesn't get any better than that! This Meetup group is for gals who'd like to get away mid-week, a couple of times each month. I call it "lunchtime skiing," and it's something that friends and I have done on and off for years. Participating in this group would mean that once or twice a month during the winter, you would be joining a group of fun-loving women for lunch at a local ski resort, followed by 3 to 4 hours o …

Every time I take off, I get an almost overwhelming sense of freedom. It's as if I could go anywhere, and not have to worry about traffic or whether or not a road has been built over a body of water. Then to see things from that perspective - sometimes awe-inspiring scenes of autumn, or a river as the light hits it just so, or the wakes of boats, almost like swans, or the mountains fading into the mist in the distance. Ask any pilot why they fly, but be ready to be there awhile, because we never …
